How to Write a Haiku

1. Know the rules
   • A haiku has 3 lines
   • Line 1: 5 syllables
   • Line 2: 7 syllables
   • Line 3: 5 syllables
2. Pick a topic
   • Haikus can be about anything, many are about nature or feelings. Choose something you like.
3. Write Your Haiku
   • Now, write your haiku. Make sure to count the syllables in each line!
4. Share Your Haiku
   • Done writing? Great! Now, share your haiku with friends or family. 

Example

Here’s a simple haiku example:

Cat sleeps all day long (5 syllables)

Dreams of chasing after mice (7 syllables)

Wake up, time for food! (5 syllables)

That’s it! Now you can write a haiku. Have fun! 😊
