Can Design Create Experiences?

Think about the last time you visited a theme park or holiday light display, got a photo in front of a selfie station, played a game at an escape room, or dined at a themed restaurant. Why’d you go? Was it for the extraordinary food or service? Probably not. You probably were interested in the experience. You selected the light display or restaurant because you wanted to experience sounds and smells and sights that created memories. You went in expecting an experience and left with new memories and stories (and probably photos).
